Pet Care (Explicit time, Implicit Space)

Pet care is an industry where you pay for an explicit time period and pay for a service to take care of your pet for a specific amount of time. The space is implicit. The dog-sitter can even come to your house and use that space, or you can get a hotel for your dog for a day and chose what kind of room it will stay in. Dog hotels manage the implicit space by offering different kinds of rooms for the dog; whereas dog sitters have special offers of prices for half or full day to offer price options to customers. The pet care business uses prices and promotions for revenue management. Pet care shops have added services such as bathing and brushing the dog to earn ancillary revenue and many centers require reservations in advance with a credit card deposit.
Four Examples:

1. Wag Hotels
Wag hotels is a hotel for dogs that uses different pricing structures for revenue management. The Wag hotels have introduced different types of rooms for the dog such as small, medium, large and a suite. They also encourage reservations to manage their space and offer ancillary services such as massage for the dog or brushing its teeth to earn more revenue from the existing space in the same amount of time.

3. SitterCity
This is a website that lets you chose pet-sitters. The pet sitters normally charge by the hour, but some examples of revenue management are seen when the sitters offer a half day or full day discount. This site earns revenue from the sitters who advertise themselves on the site. The revenue is earned by a monthly or yearly membership with an initial sign up fee. Again, different kinds of membership options offer choices for the price sensitive customer. They also have a free trial for 7 days for the sitter to experience the service without paying the fee. This encourages sitters to experiment with the site.
